Author(s): Jennette McCurdy
Publisher: Simon and Schuster, Year: 2022
Based on her one-woman show of the same name, American former actress and singer Jennette McCurdy wrote a memoir titled “I am Glad My Mom Died.” The book is about her acting career as a young child and her tense bond with her violent mother, who passed away in 2013. It is McCurdy’s debut novel and was released by Simon & Schuster on August 9, 2022.
When Jennette McCurdy went to her first acting audition, she was six years old. Jennette would do anything to fulfill her mother’s wish for her one and only daughter to achieve fame. As a result, she followed her mother’s advice to “calorie limit,” eating little and weighing herself five times every day. Mom reprimanded, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? ” while she underwent lengthy at-home makeovers. Do you believe Dakota Fanning tints hers? Mom even gave her a shower till she was sixteen years old while sharing her email, diaries, and all of her money.
Jennette explains all of this in I am Glad My Mom Died in harrowing detail, just as she describes what transpires when the dream ultimately materializes. She was chosen to appear in the upcoming iCarly Nickelodeon sitcom.
McCurdy is depicted on the I am Glad My Mom Died Book cover looking upward while clutching a pink urn that has decorative paper spilling out of it. McCurdy spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the choice to use the image as the book cover, saying:
I thought confetti spilling out of an urn would be a nice way to convey the humor in the tragedy, but I knew I didn’t want to go so far as to throw the confetti, jump in the air while beaming widely, or make any other gestures that would come across as flippant. In the end, I settled on a look that I believe conveys sincerity, a touch of grief, and a hint of hope.
